The French Riviera with Kids.

The Côte d'Azur is spectacular. It is also full of restaurants where a small child who has opinions about waiting is not entirely welcome, beaches where the waves are more exciting than advisable, and activity parks that promise everything and deliver a car park queue. None of this is a reason not to come. It's just a reason to come prepared.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

What follows is a genuinely useful list — cafés poussette where parents can sit down with a hot drink like actual humans, restaurants with play corners so lunch doesn't have to happen at emergency speed, and a few spots so good that children request them again by name. The French Riviera with kids is wonderful. You just need the right map.

Maman les P'tits Bateaux

Nice

The original baby café in Nice — open since 2016 and still the go-to for parents with young children who need a proper outing without apologising to other diners. Meals, snacks, puppet shows, musical awakening, baby massage and craft workshops for children from 0 to 8. Birthday parties too. The kind of place that makes a Tuesday feel manageable.

👶 Ages 0–8. Workshops bookable in advance.

Poussette et Pirouette

Nice

A newer baby café in Nice with a large dedicated play area for children up to 5, discovered via Happy Mums and Cool Kids magazine — which is exactly the kind of endorsement that means something. Coffee and snacks for parents, space and stimulation for small children, and the rare luxury of sitting down without someone judging the noise level. Note: no full meals on site.

☕ Open 9am–12pm and 3pm–6pm. Snacks only — eat before or after.

Chez les Garçons

Nice

The most convivial coffee shop in Nice — board games on every table, décor straight out of the 1980s complete with toys rescued from flea markets, and homemade pastries covering vegan and gluten-free without making a big deal of it. More coffee shop than restaurant, but the kind of place families linger in happily for two hours without noticing the time. Nostalgia for parents, novelty for children.

🎲 Board games at every table. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Elixirs et Sorcellerie

Cannes

The most magical café on the Côte d'Azur — a full Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts immersive experience where meals and snacks are served in complete thematic universe. There is a boutique on the way out that will do serious damage to your budget. Children will talk about this one for the rest of the trip. You have been warned on both counts.

⚡ Boutique on site — budget accordingly. All ages welcome.

Le Sucré Salé — Ludiparc

La Colle-sur-Loup

A genuine restaurant inside a children's park — which sounds like a recipe for chicken nuggets and disappointment, but is actually the opposite. Homemade cuisine with local seasonal produce, and entry to the Ludiparc is free for restaurant customers. The combination of a proper meal and a play park in one stop is the kind of logistical win that parents appreciate deeply.

🎡 Ludiparc entry FREE for restaurant customers. Book ahead.

Leisure Park · Full Day Out

Le Village des Fous

Région PACA

More leisure park than restaurant, but worth every mention for families planning a full day out. A programme that keeps children genuinely occupied for hours — combine with a packed lunch or a nearby restaurant stop, and you have the kind of day that produces tired, happy children by 6pm. Which is, after all, the goal.

🎪 Full day out — check programme and book online.

Carrousel Factory

Menton

Discovered via the Menton Tourist Office and immediately a favourite — a restaurant decorated in fairground pink and blue, serving homemade burgers, salads and sweet and savoury crêpes. The décor does exactly what it promises: children are delighted, parents are not eating from a laminated menu, and the whole experience is cheerful without being relentlessly themed. A genuinely good find at the eastern end of the coast.

🎠 Homemade food. Fairground décor. Kids love it.
