Rainy Day · Retail Therapy

It's Raining. Obviously, You Shop.

The Côte d'Azur has a reputation to maintain. The brochures do not feature grey skies, and frankly the locals prefer not to acknowledge them either. But rain happens — even here — and when it does, the region has a surprisingly solid answer: go shopping.

From the biggest mall in the South of France to a glamorous detour through Monaco, there are options for every mood and every budget. Cap 3000 near Nice airport is the obvious heavyweight — 300 shops, 50 restaurants, a luxury wing and a sea view. Nice Étoile puts you right in the middle of the city if you're already there. Le Métropole in Monaco is for when you want to window-shop Kenzo and pretend it's research. And Polygone Riviera in Cagnes-sur-Mer is beautiful — though best saved for a day when the sun cooperates.

One rainy afternoon. Four very good excuses. Pick your poison.

The Big One

Cap 3000

Saint-Laurent-du-Var · Near Nice Airport

The largest shopping centre on the Côte d'Azur — 300 boutiques, 50 restaurants, a luxury wing called Le Corso, and a sea view that has absolutely no business being this good for a shopping mall. Zara, Apple, H&M, Fnac, Galeries Lafayette and approximately 295 other reasons to stay inside until dinner.

City Centre

Nice Étoile

Nice · Avenue Jean Médecin

Four floors of shopping right in the heart of Nice, on the city's main commercial boulevard. Fashion, shoes, accessories, home furnishings and a technology store — all under one roof, with underground parking beneath the building. The practical choice if you're already in the city and the sky decides to make a point.

For Dreamers

Le Métropole

Monaco · Place du Casino

Eighty boutiques in Monaco, steps from the Casino gardens — including Kenzo, Christian Lacroix and enough other names to make window shopping feel like a cultural activity. Nobody says you have to buy anything. You're just doing research. Very thorough, very glamorous research.

Save for Sun

Polygone Riviera

Cagnes-sur-Mer · 150 Shops

One of the largest shopping destinations in the region — 150 shops, restaurants, a casino and a cinema, all in a beautifully designed open-air complex. It's stunning on a good day. On a rainy day, however, it is an outdoor mall. File this one under definitely worth it, just not today.

☂️ Open-air — best visited when the sun shows up again.
